Bordeaux: Chardon back on track

IJsbrand Chardon is back on track. The four times World Champion set the tone in the warm up competition of the FEI World Cup Driving in Bordeaux by finishing nine seconds faster than the leader until then, wild card driver Daniel Würgler from Switzerland.

Both Werner Ulrich and Theo Timmerman, who entered the arena after Chardon, could not beat Chardon’s very fast time. Chardon, who switched to driving Lipizzaner horses at the end of November, was very pleased with his result: “It was a very simple round, the horses went fantastic and very easy. It is the first time that I have the feeling that I am back again. I am really looking forward to tomorrow’s World Cup competition, I think it will be be an exciting show!”

Wild card drivers Daniel Würgler from Switzerland and home driver Thibault Coudry finished second and third in the Parc des Expositions in Bordeaux. Sweden’s Tomas Eriksson came fourth, ahead of Werner Ulrich and Theo Timmerman. The latter lost precious seconds after he missed a gate and had to drive an extra circle.

The spectators were well presented at the Jumping International de Bordeaux, but due to the lack of music, the show was not very good. The usual exciting music was replaced by background music or no music at all even, during Coudry’s round. Even the enthusiastic applauding spectators could not make up for this.
