Pau: Gold for The Netherlands and Germany
Pau/FRA (fn-press). Die deutschen Ponyfahrer haben den Nationenpreis in Pau in Südfrankreich gewonnen. Bei der Generalprobe für die Pony-Weltmeisterschaften im kommenden Jahr starteten die beiden Einspännerfahrer Jaqueline Walter (Petershagen) und Edwin Kiefer (Horb), Zweispännerfahrer Christof Weihe (Petershagen) und Vierspännerfahrer Dieter Höfs (Weil der Stadt) für die deutsche Mannschaft. Sie kamen auf 441,0 Punkte. Platz zwei ging mit 474,8 Punkten an die Gastgeber, Platz drei mit 528,0 Punkten an Belgien.Dutch driver Frans Hellegers, who was far in the lead after dressage and marathon, won the single horse class. Britain’s Pam Neill finished second, ahead of dressage winner Carlos Sanjuan Fandos from Spain.
Hellegers’ compatriots Harrie Verstappen and Gerard Leijten dominated the horse pairs class, finishing first and second and also claiming the gold in the nations competition, ahead of France and Denmark. Leijten’s pupil Miguel Gutierrez put down the first double clear round in the horse pairs class and came third in the individual standings.
Spain also did very well in the horse teams class with Juan Real Garcia winning the combined competition ahead of the best French driver Anthony Horde and Spain-based Ernesto Colman Mena from Uruguay.
The German drivers won the combined pony nations competition with the third place for Edwin Kiefer in the pony singles class, the victory for Christof Weihe in the pony pairs class and Dieter Höfs finishing third in the pony teams class. Host nation France finished second, ahead of Belgium.
World Champion Kristina Klindt drove a double clear round and secured her first place in the pony singles class, ahead of Robert Buck from Great Britain. Christof Weihe did the same in the pony pairs class and finished ahead of Dutch driver Karel van Kekem who climbed to the second place after Lars Dau (DEN) was eliminated when he drove a wrong course. Pony team driver Jozsef Dobrovitz jr. was not very pleased with his one knock down in the cones, but was happy to be the winner of this lovely test event. France-based US driver Laurie Astegiano came second, ahead of Dieter Höfs.

Besonders für Christof Weihe hat sich die weite Anreise von rund 1.600 Kilometern gelohnt. Er siegte nicht nur mit dem deutschen Team, sondern gewann auch die Kombinierte Wertung der Pony-Zweispänner. Er legte einen Start-Ziel-Sieg hin. Er gewann die Dressur, die Geländeprüfung und blieb fehlerfrei im Hindernisfahren.
Seine 20-jährige Tochter Jaqueline Walter belegte mit ihrem Pony Maverick Platz sechs in der Kombinierten Wertung bei den Pony-Einspännern. Mit 3,68 Fehlerpunkten im Kegelfahren war sie vom fünften Platz nach Dressur und Gelände am Ende auf den sechsten Platz gerutscht. Für die Mannschaftswertung zählte ihr Dressurergebnis, im Gelände und im Hindernisfahren flossen dann die Ergebnisse von Mannschaftskollege Edwin Kiefer mit Raro’s As in die Teamwertung ein. Er beendete die Kombinierte Wertung der Pony-Einspänner auf dem dritten Platz. Nach Platz acht in der Dressur, hatten Platz zwei im Gelände und ein fehlerfreies Kegelfahren dafür gesorgt, dass er sich weit nach vorne schieben konnte. Es siegte die Dänin Kristina Klindt.
