Exloo 2019: a chilly but successful finish

The third edition of the international driving competition at the Hippisch Centrum Exloo closed today with the cones which was driven in two rings on perfect sand footing. Even with the drop in temperature the chilly weather didn't get in the way of a beautiful day.

New comer to the international field Louise Hansen (GER) made a late entry to Exloo but that had  no influence on her presentation. The 25 year-old driver nipped in front of Rodinde Rutjens in the final standings. Rutjens lost out on her win with a few time penalties in the cones letting Hansen take the win and Louise Fillion (FRA) ended up in third.

Marijke Hammink was the only driver of the four-in-hand ponies to drive a double-clear cones winning the division in front of Edith Chardon and Jannes Kinds.

Despite winning the dressage and marathon, Gjalt Jan Jansma had too many mistakes in the cones to hold onto the win. Jansma did hold onto second place and achieved his three-star status. Mie Mosegaard Nielsen (DEN) won the single horse division and Jaap van der Horst finished in third.

Antonie ter Harmsel

Antonie ter Harmsel held onto third position after dressage and cones and was the only pair horse to drive a double clear round in the cones. This upset World Championship organiser Sandro Koalick from the first and second place.

IJsbrand Chardon used the competition in Exloo to try out new horses in his team and as the results show the mission was accomplished. Chardon closed the competition with the win and cones winner Edwin van der Graaf finished in second ahead of Sebastian Hess (GER).

With a group of great volunteers, a great accommodation and beautiful weather the organizers behind Exloo look back on a very successful show which will most definitely be on the agenda again in 2020. Reserve the last weekend in March (26-29) for the fourth edition of CAI2* Exloo.
