The Driving Moment of … Esther Dijkema

The Hoefnet challenge 'My Most Memorable Driving-Moment' resulted in three great winning stories. We would also like to show you the beautiful stories that did not make it to the top three. Below you find the driving- moment of Esther Dijkema.

What is your ‘Most Memorable Driving moment’ of 2022? Hoefnet asks. Immediately images flash through my mind. We have had so many beautiful rides, fun events and exciting competitions in the past year.

What is the moment of 2022? The lessons in the meadow or indoor arena from Marieke or Hans? The Sunday rides and coffee chats with Koetsiersvereniging De IJsselmenners? Or the shows with our authentic two-wheeler and fully dressed in style? The rides in our ‘backyard’ National Park Veluwezoom and the Loenermarkt? Wildlife spotting during sunset? The long drives during summer evenings? The weekends away with horse and partner? Helping with events (volunteering during the World Championships for Four-in-Hand horses in Pratoni certainly topped the charts last September)? The weekly ‘catching up rides’ with girlfriend Martine? The drives with the authentic carriage along beautiful locations and special stops? The dressage and cones competitions where my partner and I mainly competed against each other? Driving together and talking a lot about driving (and horses in general) with my uncle and aunt (also our neighbours, so you can imagine all the pleasant evenings)? Being with my great friend Bon Ami? What a very well chosen name for this super horse! The drive I did with girlfriend Petra to raise money for Ukrainian refugees? The drives where friends, acquaintances, neighbors or colleagues were on the back of the carriage (most of them had nothing to do with horses..)? Warming up with hot tea after a ride in the cold or rain?

In fact, it all boils down to bringing people together. Thanks to driving I got to know so many sweet, nice, friendly people and experienced so many beautiful moments. Choosing one moment is simply impossible!
