American Bill Long passed away

Bill Long, one of the most successful American drivers in international Four-in-Hand competition, passed away early this week. He was 79 years old.

Bill Long competed at World Championships for Four-in-Hand in 1984 (Szilvasvárad, HUN), 1886 (Ascot, GBR), 1988 (Apeldoorn, NED) 1990 (Stockholm, SWE), 1992 (Riesenbeck, GER), 1994 (Den Haag, NED), and 2000 (Wolfsburg, GER). Long was the first American-trained driver to win the Royal Windsor Driving Grand Prix in England and he placed sixth in the World Four-In-Hand Championship in Stockholm 1990.

In 1989, Long received the USET’s Whitney Stone Cup, an award given annually to an individual who not only has a distinguished international record, but who is also a fine ambassador for the sport and the USET. In 1995, Long added to his illustrious record when he won the U.S Equestrian Team (USET) Four-In-Hand National Championship for the fifth time.
