Beekbergen: Bram Chardon extends his lead
An enormous amount of driving enthusiasts, tourists, and people wanting a fun day out, came to Beekbergen today to watch the marathon. Thousands of spectators got to see beautiful sport. The atmosphere was great. Announcer Mark Wentein turned it into a party, with the audience doing the 'wave' as the favorites drove past to obstacles 4 and 5.

A few balls
Ewoud Boom won bij de tweespannen de marathon. Hiermee is hij naar de vijfde plaats in het klassement gestegen. Dressuurwinnaar Martin Hölle werd derde, maar staat in het klassement nog fier aan de leiding. De menners hadden allemaal wel een hindernis waar het net even niet liep. En er rolde nogal eens een balletje. Parcoursbouwer Johan Jacobs legde uit dat vooral in de mobiele hindernissen veel afrijdbare elementen (balletjes) waren. Hiermee wil hij ervoor zorgen dat er paardvriendelijk wordt gereden.
Ewoud Boom won the pair driving marathon. This moved him into fifth place in the overall standings. Dressage winner Martin Hölle came in third, but is still proudly in the lead overall. The drivers all had an obstacle where it didn’t go well. Course designer Johan Jacobs explained that especially in the mobile obstacles there were many detachable elements (balls). With this he wants to ensure that competitors drive horse-friendly.

Bad luck
Bij de vierspannen deed laatste starter Bram Chardon er een schepje bovenop. Hij vergrootte zijn voorsprong door ook de marathon te winnen en leidt het klassement met iets minder dan 128 strafpunten. Koos de Ronde was gebrand op de marathonwinst, maar moest genoegen nemen met plek 2. In twee hindernissen tikte hij er een balletje af. Zijn mooie marathonresultaat heeft hem in het klassement doen stijgen naar plaats 2. Maar het verschil met Bram Chardon is groot, want Koos de Ronde staat op 141,74 strafpunten. Bram is blij met zijn mooie uitgangspositie. “Ik wil hier natuurlijk graag punten verzamelen voor de wereldbekerkwalificatie. Maar ik ben nog nooit Nederlands kampioen geweest bij de paarden en dat wil ik heel graag.”
Last starter Bram Chardon took the lead in the Four-in-Hands. He extended his lead by winning the marathon and leads the standings with under 128 penalty points. Koos de Ronde was eager to win the marathon, but had to settle for second place in two obstacles. His wonderful marathon result has lifted him to second place in the overall standings, but the difference with Bram Chardon is big. Koos de Ronde now has 141.74 penalty points.
Bram is happy with his good starting position. “Of course I would like to collect points here for the World Cup qualification. But I have never been Dutch champion in the Four-in-Hand horses and I really want that.”
