Bram Chardon wins Leipzig, Drivers World Cup final known

After Friday night in the warm up competition in Leipzig only Mareike Meier managed to stay clear, today there were a lot less mistakes. Now that the last World Cup competition before the final is over, the drivers that have been selected for the final in Bordeaux in early February are known!

Especially Wild Card competitor Koos de Ronde made great progress today. For him, several balls fell on Friday, the course had to be rebuilt and one of his grooms stepped down. As a result, today he started first and stayed clear. He thus qualified for the drive-off and finished third.

Glenn Geerts also drove a very nice round today but, as often this season, he just did not qualify for the drive-off. Besides Koos de Ronde, IJsbrand Chardon and Bram Chardon also started for a second time. So we knew before the drive-off that we were assured of an all-Dutch podium!

Yesterday, Jérôme Voutaz finished second. Today he also went off to a flying start again, but because of the two fallen balls he dropped from third place to seventh place in the overall standings.

Father and son

Bram and IJsbrand Chardon were the only ones today who managed to stay under 150 penalty points in the first round. IJsbrand was faster with his time of 143.99, but a ball fell in front of him. Bram drove a time of 145.17 but managed to stay clear. Also in the drive-off, IJsbrand was slightly faster -0.84 seconds-, but had one more ball down than Bram.

So Bram earns the maximum number of points at the last World Cup competition before the final. Father IJsbrand finishes second and because Koos de Ronde participated with his Wild Card, the points for third place in the standings go to Glenn Geerts.
