Flyinge European Championship: Marathon shakes up intermediate standings

The young marathon specialists had a great time today between the six obstacles in Flyinge, Sweden. Over the past few days during reconnaissance, it was already clear that the marathon would not be easy.

Belgians score well in the Children, the Dutch in the Juniors Pony Single and Pairs

The Belgian youth showed their up-and-coming talents in the youngest category. Hannelore Timmerman won this section and Loic Timmerman came third. Lotte Letteboer got off to a bit of a rough start, but also rode an excellent marathon. She finished sixth, moving up to second place in the intermediate rankings. Daan Douwes and Bryan Limpens finished in places 14 and 17. Germany’s Sophia Ihnen is now in the lead in the intermediate classification; Tamara Faber has dropped to third place. One elimination in the Children, Germany’s Conner Bochnia.

In the Juniors single-car pony the Dutch driver mastered the marathon best. Joris Lauwers and Lotte Zaaijer finished as numbers 1 and 2, moving them both up considerably in the intermediate rankings. Lotte came from 14 to place 7 and Joris from 27 to place 14. Jacco de Koning finished in 21st place. Wannes Pickart became the best Belgian driver with sixth spot. He thus moved up 11 places in the intermediate rankings. Unfortunately three eliminations in the marathon, including Belgium’s Lise Pallen.

The Dutch Junior pony pair drivers were also supreme. Lisa KleinJan won the marathon where she was fastest in three of the six obstacles. Karlijne Ramaker came second and Liza Beekhuiszen narrowly missed out on a podium place, finishing fourth. Liza Beekhuiszen thus maintained her leading position in the intermediate classification with a lead of over seven penalty points over number two …. Karlijne Ramaker who climbed considerably in the intermediate classification. Lisa Kleinjan moved up to fifth place with her dyke of a marathon, with her sights set on a podium finish which seems very achievable. Belgium’s Niels Ver Eecke rode to fifth place and maintains his fourth ranking in the intermediate classification.

U25 classes

In the U25 singles ponies, Dirk Bastiaansen did what he does best: win the marathon. His performance moved him up to silver in the intermediate rankings. Oniek van Olst and Renate Provoost finished 20th and 22nd respectively and have dropped to eighth and ninth in the intermediate rankings.

The pony pair class was won overwhelmingly by Germany’s Leon Zacharias Reinhardt. He set the fastest time in all six obstacles. Ischa Vink came second in five of the six obstacles. He swapped places in the intermediate classification with Anouk de Haas, who unfortunately had to acknowledge her superiority in the competition.

Frenchman Come Boisteau won the marathon convincingly. He was the fastest in four of the six obstacles. With this performance, he moved up to second position in the intermediate rankings. Victoria Persson (SWE) is still in the lead and has over four points ahead of Come, who in turn is over four penalty points ahead of number three in the standings: Kim de Groot. Kim drove for what she was worth, but did not get any higher than fifteenth place, dropping one place in the standings.

The Netherlands leads Nations Cup

The Dutch team competing for the Nations Cup did very good in the marathon today. The fourth position after the dressage was completely eliminated after the marathon and currently the Netherlands leads with more than five penalty points ahead of number two, Hungary. Right behind, with two points difference is in third place Germany.

Tomorrow is the final event, the cones. After the cones we will know who can call themselves European Youth Champion 2024 and which country will be European Champion.
