Driving world mourns Christian Schlögelhofer

It was with great sadness that it was announced yesterday that Christian Schlögelhofer, one of Austria's most outstanding four-horse drivers, passed away on the evening of Dec. 19. Christian would have turned 50 years old at January 13.

His death is the tragic result of a serious accident he had in October. Christian Schlögelhofer was much more than just an impressive sportsman. As a multiple national champion and successful participant in international championships – including European and World Championships – he left his mark on Austrian driving sports for decades. His successes at national and international level made him a role model for younger drivers. Many of his driving sport friends still saw him in early September at the World Championship for Four-in-Hand in Szilvásvárad, not knowing that was the last time…

Christian’s commitment to the driving sport extended beyond his own horses. For example, he was an coach for the Austrian Youth Talent program, in which he trained young drivers. He was not only a mentor, but also a supporter who passed on his charisma to the next generation.

We wish his family, friends and everyone who knew and appreciated him tremendous strength during this difficult time.
