The Netherlands to send drivers to European Young Drivers Championships in Lamotte

After years of being absent from the European Championships for Young Drivers, the Netherlands, a country known for its carriage driving culture, will be sending a team to Lamotte-Beuvron France 24-30 August.

The driving districts in the Netherlands approached the Dutch Equestrian Federation for support at their forum and it has been decided that 20 young drivers will be invited to take part in a selection that will be held at Chardon Paardensport in Den Hoorn on Saturday 15 February.

The young drivers will be split into three divisions:

Children (12-14 years old with single pony)
Junior (14-18 years old with a single or pair of ponies)
Young Drivers (16-21 years old with a single horse or pony or pair of ponies)

Evaluated by FEI judges

At the selection, the drivers will drive their FEI dressage test, a cones course and two marathon obstacles. They will be evaluated by FEI level 3 judges Ad van Roon and Hermann van den Bosch. In addition there will be a presentation on their opportunities to grow as drivers and what precisely will happen and what to expect when you take part in a European Championship. This presentation will be given by no one less than reigning four-in-hand European Champion Bram Chardon.

The support team will consist of Erik Couwenberg, Christiaan Provoost and Hans Zumbrink, who will also be evaluating the drivers on their qualities. This team will also be coaching the driving talents as they work towards the European Championships.

A national team will consist of minimum 3 and maximum 6 competitors (1 or 2 per category). Each country has the option to send a maximum of 2 individuals per age category.
