Dutch province supports European and World Championships in Exloo

With an official kick-off, it was announced yesterday in Exloo that the Province of Drenthe, in addition to other sponsors, supports the FEI Driving European Championship for Four-in-Hand and the FEI Para Driving World Championship. The presentation of the event took place at the Equestrian Center in Exloo. Along with being introduced as ambassadors to the sport, details of the preparations for the Championships were laid out to those present.

The construction of the obstacles

New obstacles

Lieuwe Koopmans of the Equestrian Center is looking forward to the event. “We are already busy with the construction of some obstacles. We are building a new water obstacle for the marathon, as well as new obstacles all over the facility,” he says enthusiastically. Because the 8 spectacular obstacles are all within walking distance around the area, the public can easily follow the performances of all participants. “Without the support of the province, we would not be able to organize these Championships,” adds Lieuwe.

Ambassadors

Reigning Dutch Para Driving champion Ingmar Veneman has been a part of the Dutch Para Equestrian Driving team for many years. She lives close to Exloo and has committed herself to the World Championship as an ambassador. “A World Championship so close to home is unique. I’m going for gold!”

Reigning European and Dutch Four-in-Hand champion Bram Chardon is ambassador of the European Championship for Four-in-Hand. He not only has the ambition to defend his title, but also wants to turn this Championship into a great event in his own country. “I won my previous titles in Budapest and Donaueschingen. Of course I would like to repeat that again in my own country. But my father will be my biggest opponent.” Of course he had already taken a look at the obstacles and said that it looks very good. Finally, how those obstacles are created was explained by course designer Jeroen Houterman. The photos showed how much work has already been done by his team and the volunteers.

Free entrance

Finally, a number of questions were addressed to all speakers. The European Championships for Four-in-Hand and the World Championships for Para Driving take place from 23 to 27 August 2023 and are open to the public free of charge on all days.
