Seventeenth national title for Tomas Eriksson
The Swedish national carriage driving championships were held this past weekend in Skogsborg, Götene, where International four-in-hand driver Tomas Eriksson clinched his seventeenth national title.Eriksson was very happy with his win: " This summer my horses have been a bit inconsistant, but after this weekend everything feels very good. The horses preformed well in all three competitions." Eriksson has been struggling with finding the right feeling again after the retirement of Filur, who was a pillar in his team.
During the Swedish Championships Erikssons team consisted of Speedy, Don Pronto, Pamino 73, Wittenstein 2 and Rachi Rødslev, better known as "Rolle". The 20 year-old Rolle made a comeback at the championships. "You have to be careful with horses of this age, but he was definitely in top form" said Eriksson, who made use of the leader in the marathon and the dressage. The 52 year-old driver is seriously contemplating retirement from the carriage sport after the World Equestrian Games in Normandy, but for now is completely immersed in the preparations for this mega-even in Caen, France that will begin for the four-in-hand drivers on September 4th.
