Bordeaux World Cup Final 2024: Bram Chardon in the lead, differences are minimal
The tension was intense today during the first round of the World Cup final in Bordeaux, and that is reflected in the results. The top four are only two seconds apart. Bram Chardon is in the lead, followed by Boyd Exell, Koos de Ronde and Dries Degrieck. The format of the World Cup finals is slightly different than the qualifiers. This means that no drive-off was held today and today’s result counts 50% towards tomorrow’s result. The total of these results will determine the winner of this year’s World Cup.
Koos de Ronde sets a fast time
There was no room to start quietly and carefully today, with drivers immediately giving it their all, driving on the edge. Wild Card participant Benjamin Aillaud kicked it off. He opened the evening with his time of 158.63 and two dropped balls.
Then it was the turn of the always fast Koos de Ronde. With his time of 138.89 and one dropped ball, he managed to stay at the top for a long time. Dries Degrieck then seemed to be well on his way to improving Koos’ time. With his split time of 1.75 seconds faster than Koos, he seemed to be able to improve, but he had to make some concessions in the second part of the course. He finished clear with a time of 143.77 seconds.
Michael Brauchle also drove fast, but could not match Koos’s result, partly due to a small hitch before gate five. With his time of 151.62 and two dropped balls, he had to settle for 159.62 penalty points. IJsbrand Chardon also performed very well today. With his time of 139.89 he was exactly one second slower than Koos, but due to the two dropped balls he finished behind Koos.

Bram Chardon and Boyd Exell improve results
Then it was the turn of Bram Chardon and Boyd Exell. Bram went like a rocket, but had to concede a ball in obstacle six, when he hit the wood from A to B. His split time was 1.64 seconds faster than Koos, and he managed to maintain that. With his time of 137.71 he remained just over one second faster.
Boyd Exell started last today. He managed to increase the pressure with the split time that was 1.14 seconds faster than Bram. Boyd drove aggressively and stayed clear, but finished in second place with a time of 142.75, one second behind him. The differences are therefore small, because Dries Degrieck, Koos de Ronde, Boyd Exell and Bram Chardon are separated by two penalty points. Today’s results count for 50% tomorrow, when the fight for the coveted World Cup title takes place.
