Switzerland names 2020 Champions in Bern

Along with Championships being driven in Germany this weekend, Switzerland was also holding their national championships. The Nationales Pferdezentrum in Bern offered to hold the championships after the competition in Coinsins was forced to cancel this year due to Covid-19.

Horses

Stefan Ulrich and Pamino U won the dressage, were third in marathon and drove an excellent cones to win his third Swiss title. Mario Gandolfo drove Hakam du Seneut CH to silver, the Austrian Stefan Bösch placed third in the final results which ment that the bronze medal went to fourth placed Michael Barbey with Kalao des Arreneys CH.

Werner Ulrich  won his home competition with a pair of horses. The former four-in-hand driver won the dressage, placed fifth in the marathon and with just a few time penalties clinched the gold medal. Marcel Luder won silver and the bronze medal went to Beat Schenk.

Jérôme Voutaz was dominant in his homeland. The talented driver won all three competitions and will be the only Swiss driver to represent his country at the World Championships in Valkenswaard this fall.

Ponies

Cédric Scherrer won his sixth consecutive national single pony title with his Champion pony Calypso II, winning all three competitions. Linus Berther and Doris Schmid won silver and bronze respectively.

Lea Schmidlin took home her very first gold medal for pair ponies. The enthusiastic 35 year-old driver won the dressage and marathon and had enough of a cushion heading into the cones that a few penalty points were not a threat to her title. Cyrine Falk won silver and Hanspeter Sommer won bronze.

Yannik Scherrer and Dominic Falk were neck an neck throughout the weekend and Scherrer edged out Falk to take home his third Swiss Championship.
