Nine young carriage drivers pack their bags for Poland
Nine young carriage drivers are packing their bags and heading off to Poland for the FEI European Youth Championships, to be held in Walbrzych from Thursday 21 to Sunday 24 August. Six will be selected for the team competition while the other three will compete as individuals.The youngsters representing Team GBR are Katy Alvis, aged 16 from Redhill, Bristol, Mike Hodgson (19) from Congleton, Cheshire, Charlotte Mansi-Clark (19) from Diss, Norfolk, Stephanie Milner (18) from Huggate, York, Grace Smith (14) from Manningtree, Essex, Jay Snow (16) from Llandysul, Ceredigion, Emily Viller (16) from Sutton St James, Lincolnshire, Megan Wheeldon (13) from Ashbourne, Derbyshire, and Tara Wilkinson (17) from Shelf, near Halifax.
Stephanie, Megan and Tara were in the team that brought home Gold from the 2012 Junior World Trophy in Austria – with Stephanie and Tara also winning individual medals – while Jay competed as an individual and won a Gold medal for the dressage phase.
Team GBR, led by Chef d’Equipe Mary Jane Campbell, plans to leave the UK on Friday 15 August and arrive in Poland the following Monday giving the youngsters and their ponies time to settle before the all important Trot Up on Thursday morning.
“The youngsters have been training well together and gel as a team. They are all very proud to be representing Great Britain and will do their best to put up medal-winning performances,” said Mary Jane.
