Salland: Fransen domineren enkelspan marathon
The French single drivers dominated the beautiful marathon of Pony Driving Salland in Giethmen this afternoon. Maxime Maricourt drove his 13-year-old skewbald stallion Judo to victory, ahead of his compatriot Ludovic Huet. Arjo van Kekem was the best Dutch driver, driving his Hackney pony Domero very fast to the third place.
In tegenstelling tot 2009 toen Maxime Maricourt in Giethmen een groom verloor en daarmee zijn kans op de overwinning in de marathon verloor, reed de 22-jarige marathonspecialist vandaag zonder fouten en legde hij de acht prachtige hindernissen in een hoog tempo af. De marathonoverwinning in Giethmen is voor Maricourt al zijn vierde winst op rij, eerder dit seizoen won hij de marathons op de Franse wedstrijden in Neewiller, Pau en Saumur. Voor Ludovic Huet was de marathon extra spannend, want woensdagavond was zijn 8-jarige Olwyn du Logis niet helemaal fit en was het maar de vraag of de merrie voldoende zou herstellen om aan de marathon deel te kunnen nemen. Gelukkig bleek de Welsh pony volledig hersteld en klom de 29-jarige Huet van de elfde naar de vijfde plaats in het tussenklassement.
Arjo van Kekem staat na zijn derde plaats in de marathon op de voorlopige 8ste plaats in het klassement. Wereldkampioene Melanie Becker reed haar Ostara’s Sandor naar de vierde plaats in de marathon en staat nu zesde.
De Deense dressuurwinnaar Peter Koux heeft zijn leiding in het klassement weten te behouden, maar zal morgen in de vaardigheid de lei schoon moeten houden. Hij wordt op de voet gevolgd door de Brit Robert Buck en Maxime Maricourt. Yvonne de Ruyter werd elfde in de marathon maar behoudt haar vierde plaats in het klassement.
In contrary to 2009 when Maricourt lost his chance to victory when he lost a groom in the marathon in Giethmen, the 22-year-old marathon specialist drove faultless today and conquered the eight marathon obstacles at high speed. This is Maxime’s fourth marathon victory in a row, earlier this season he won the marathon at the French international competitions in Neewiller, Pau and Saumur. For Ludovic Huet the marathon was extra exciting as his 8 year old Olwyn du Logis was not quite fit on Wednesday and it was not clear if the mare would be fit enough to compete in the marathon. But luckily the Welsh pony was completely recovered and made the 29-year-old Huet climb from the 11th to the 5th place in the standings.
Arjo van Kekem is currently in 8th position after dressage and marathon. World Champion Melanie Becker drove her Ostara’s Sandor to the 4th place in the marathon and is now in 6th position. Danish dressage winner Peter Koux has managed to keep his lead in the standings, but it will be an exciting obstacle driving competition tomorrow because he is closely followed by Robert Buck from Great Britain and Maxime Maricourt.
